Taking Back Your Power
A simple, effective practice for immediate relief + October card spread.
In 2016, I regularly attended energy-based therapy with Gail McCarthy of Life In Balance. She taught me a practice I still use when my personal autonomy feels mushy or porous. It’s A+ after interactions with people/ideas leave you feeling confused, distracted, or low energy.
Want to try it?
Below is my synthesis, paraphrased from what Gail taught me and how I’ve incorporated it into my life.
Close your eyes. Take deep belly breaths in a rhythm that feels good to you.
Imagine you’re standing in front of the other person or idea.
How does the space between you feel? Notice whether any cords connect you. Are they draining you or pulling you where you do not want to go?
Love does not mean passively allowing others to siphon your life force or control/influence you! Everyone deserves healthy boundaries and mutual respect.
To restore balance, say to the other person or idea:
“I take my power back.” Repeat until this feel true. For cords you don’t want going from you to the other person/idea, visualize them retracting back to you, dissolving, or breaking with the force of your intention.
“I give you back your power.” Repeat until this feels true. For cords you don’t want coming to you from the other person/idea, visualize them retracting to the other person, dissolving, or breaking with the force of your intention.
Feel better? I love this practice as a simple and effective tool.
October Card Spread
I’ve been using this spread a lot lately! It works great with any tarot or oracle decks you have on hand.
If you happen to have Prairie Majesty Oracle and Song of the Grandmothers, I recommend using PMO for all of the placements plus an emotional support Grandmother under each column, like I did in the above photo.
If you try it, you know I want to hear about it! Tag me on Instagram: @joyful_resonance

Hey! I recognize that reading! I've been pondering it ever since. THANK YOU!
Is there a way I can share that and give a testimonial? What's the most effective way to do that.
Great reminder of taking back our power. I haven’t used that visualization in awhile and now I will! Time to pull out some cards to try this spread too. Thanks, sis!
